A wedding in Bolton descended into chaos after guests started fighting during the reception.

The incident happened at Regent Hall in Prescott Street on the evening of August 24, 2023, and began when several men approached some guests.

Footage was shared online and on WhatsApp.

It showed wedding guests sitting at tables and eating dinner while a white cloth partition separated the men and women.

In the video, things appear normal as the guests enjoy their meal while waiters serve them food and music plays in the background.

But things take a turn when a few men approach a seated guest, who has his back turned to him, and flicks his hat off.

Words are exchanged between the pair before the man slaps the seated guest.

Another man gets up to defend his friend but is punched.

It soon erupts into a mass brawl, with the men fighting near their table.

One man is seen thrown into the partition while another man uses a walking stick as a weapon.

The male guests look on in shock. Meanwhile, many of the female guests continue with their meal, however, some begin to turn around.

The cloth partition tears apart and the fight spills into the female section, with chairs and tables smashed.

More guests get involved in the fight while others try to run for cover.

Screams are heard as people unsuccessfully try to break up the fight.

The man who appeared to start the fight was seen in the middle of the female area brawling with other guests.

The video shows one guest taking a pole used to hold up the partition and attempting to hit one of the assailants before a staff member takes it away from him.

As the chaos continues, the bride and groom watch on helplessly as their special day is ruined.

But among the melee, one elderly man remains seated, seemingly unable or unwilling to move.

The fight appears to calm down as the perpetrators are separated from one another.

The guests are believed to be from a surrounding town.
