Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna was arrested at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport over allegations he sexually abused hundreds of women.

The suspended JD(S) leader went to Germany shortly after several women came forward and levelled the claims.

Revanna is accused of sexually abusing hundreds of women in Karnataka and filming the assaults.

Footage on social media showed a police team taking him into custody.

Another viral image shows Revanna in the back of a police vehicle.

Home Minister G Parameshwara said:

“Prajwal Revanna landed at 12.40 am from Munich and was arrested. Due process will be carried out by the special investigation team (SIT).

“Justice will prevail… SIT is working within the law of the land.

“I have not spoken to the officials yet but they will act per procedure. I hope he cooperates…”

Revanna’s mobile phone and luggage have been seized while he was taken to Bowring Hospital for tests. Afterwards, SIT chief BK Singh will question him.

Police searched a farmhouse in Hassan where the abuse allegedly took place.

It was reported that “incriminating material” was seized.

Meanwhile, a special court in Bengaluru rejected an anticipatory bail request.

On May 27, 2024, Prajwal Revanna released a video statement where he said:

“I apologise to my parents… I was in depression (over political rivals’ attacks on the sex assault charges). I will appear (before the police team) on May 31.

“I will cooperate to the best of my abilities… I have the blessings of God…”

His statement came after a “warning” from his grandfather HD Deve Gowda, who told him to return to India and surrender, or “face your family’s anger…”

The BJP has distanced itself from Revanna and the investigation.

BJP leader S Prakash said:

“We, as a party, have nothing to do with the videos and neither do we have any comments to make…”

Meanwhile, the JD(S) has been dealing with internal criticism after it emerged that party leader Sharangouda Kandkur had warned of potential embarrassment if these allegations were to become public.

Six days after the allegations surfaced in April 2024, Prajwal Revanna boarded a flight to Munich.

That same day, he cryptically said the “truth will prevail soon” without mentioning the charges.

While the case has shocked India, people in Hassan remain reluctant to discuss it.

One female student said: “Boys in our college are talking about it. But we feel repulsed and don’t even want to listen to what happened.”

A resident said: “People switch off their TV sets now because they only show this shameful episode.

“We are sick of this. This has given the district such a bad name.”
